Richards Blog –  03.01.09 – Happy New Year!

Well we had a lovely relaxing Christmas with the families but decided to head off and do our own thing for the New Year Celebrations, we decided to have 3 nights in Birmingham – one of our favourite cities, calling Birmingham a favourite might sound odd but it is really lively and a great place to eat for us with our love of Indian food.

Talking of food we went to our favourite restaurant on our first night, Dawat in Sparkbrook which is a typical Balti house with a modern twist and to make it even better you can bring your own drink! I can particularly recommend the Chilli Chicken – not for the faint hearted!
On New Years Eve (and my Birthday – 21 again!) we celebrated in style at The Jam House – a superb music venue part owned by Jools Holland no less. It was a great night and the music excellent, in particular the headline act The Subterraneans put on a great show with some excellent covers including a great favourite of mine “She sells Sactuary” by the Cult. The band have been playing alongside Hazel O’Connor (remember her?) and there is a great video on their website http://www.thesubs.co.uk/ That vid inspired me to check out some of Hazel’s tracks including “Give me an Inch” - good stuff!

After all that fun we had a great chilled day most of which was spent in bed recovering at our hotel, then watching Dr Who in the afternoon – not my usual thing but I enjoyed it nonetheless – simple things! On 2nd Jan we headed back to Sunderland to plan the delivery of our new coach next week – watch this space!
